Catalysing a New Generation of Activists to Challenge Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Child Marriage and Forced Marriage (CEFM) in Uganda

In partnership with Womankind Worldwide, NAWOU is implementing this project which focuses on instilling girls with the confidence and leadership skills to be able to challenge FGM and CEFM by creating their own campaigns to raise awareness and engage parents and leaders from a position of agency.

This is a pilot project, in one community Centre in Kaptum Sub-county targeting 70 girls and 30 boys in the first year and will be scaled up based on the lessons documented in the first phase, which runs between July 2020 to June 2021. The sub-county was selected because it accounts for the highest incidence of FGM in the Sebei Sub-region, one of the regions still practising FGM even though it was outlawed in 2010.
