The Women Artisans Training of Trainers was held in Hoima District at Bunyoro Kitara, Mothers’ Union Center from Monday 17th October to Tuesday 18th October 2016. 21 Women Artisans were trained in basketry making, equipping them with weaving patterns, incorporating fabric to the fiber to fashion gorgeous basketry pieces. The 21 Women Artisans were a representation from the 7 Women Artisan groups from Hoima district, each group having three representatives, responsible for training other members in their respective groups. The training was aimed at increasing the supplier base of basketry so as to meet the ever accelerating demand of the basketry pieces, locally, regionally and internationally while supporting the trained women to sustain livelihoods through income generation from basketry production.

The 21 Women Artisans came from Kitoba Catholic Women Empowerment Group, St. Christine Women Group, St. Immaculate Women Group, Bugambe Group, Kyamalera Women Group, Kisenyi Women Group, and Take A Step Women Group. NAWOU, represented by its staff: Josephine Namatovu- the Assistant Project Officer- Economic Empowerment, Catherine Nabatesa – the Store Keeper, NAWOU Handmade along with Suubi Njuki- the Trainer imparted skill onto the Women Artisans regarding product design and development in basketry making.
